Professor to discuss prosthetic limbs for injured vets

SE students can learn about developing robotic prosthetic limbs for veterans at 11:45 a.m. Nov. 11 in the ESEC North Ballroom.

Dr. Romero Ortega, bioengineering associate professor at the University of Texas at Arlington, will make the presentation.

“The main purpose for this presentation is to understand mechanisms of failure of peripheral nerve interfaces, and our vision to develop biological interfaces for advanced bionics,” he said.

Ortega said he will focus on advanced robotic prosthetic limbs and the need of neural interfaces so the user can naturally control and feel those limbs.

He will also discuss what this would mean to veterans who had limbs amputated while defending their country.
