Students will learn new ways to make career decisions without panicking at First-Year Career Guidance and Planning at 1 p.m. Nov. 16 in SSTU Texas Room on South Campus.
Monica Miranda, South career center coordinator, said she sees many students who are undecided about their major or career goal.
“When they come to us, they are already in their last semester and getting ready to graduate with an AAS [Associate of Applied Science] degree or transferring to a four-year university,” she said.
Miranda said students can learn about career resources that will help them focus on making major and career decisions.
“For the most part, students get into a panic mode,” she said.
Students feel rushed when it comes to making a decision about their career or a major because they’re either transferring or looking for employment, but they may still not know what they want to do, she said.
“Therefore, we are encouraging students, especially first-year students, to start planning early,” she said. “By doing so, we can guide students with various interventions that include exploring career occupations and self-assessments that will guide a student toward a major and/or career goal.”
