A counselor gave students dating tips on TR Campus Oct. 27.

In the Healthy Dating lunchtime workshop, Jeronimo Aviles offered insight on who students date and why.

Aviles said people date similar individuals.

“A homeless person will date a homeless person,” he said. “We date who we are.”

He said a person who has a fear of intimacy will date people who are detached because they will not ask questions.

Aviles said to look for certain characteristics or traits in a partner. He said people don’t have to give up their values for someone else.

“It’s important to understand values and boundaries … dating without boundaries and values can cause some problems,” he said.

Aviles said students must be truthful with themselves to maintain a healthy relationship.

TR student Norma Lopez said she attended to better her relationship and to see if it is healthy.
