TCC’s board of trustees approved a 3.5 percent raise for Chancellor Erma Johnson Hadley, bringing her total yearly salary to $396,000.
While Hadley said she believed her evaluation went well and she appreciates the raise, there were a few goals she felt that were not met this year.
Two goals in particular, Hadley said, that were not met focused on student retention and student success in developmental courses.
“I was least happy with student retention,” she said. “We had some increase and were able to retain some of our students but not near to the level we wanted.”
Student retention from Fall 2012 to Spring 2013 for all students rose 1 percent from 67 to 68 percent. For first-time students, the number stayed the same at 73 percent.
With developmental courses, Hadley said she wanted to see more improvement in reading and writing though the numbers in math did see a bump.
“We had some success in developmental courses,” she said, “particularly in math, which is a good thing because that is the hardest to improve, but I wanted to see the numbers in reading and writing go up as well, and we didn’t get the result we wanted.”
Hadley said she has put both of those goals back into her appraisal plan for the upcoming year and is ready to get back to work on meeting them.
“We are really going to concentrate on the retention this year,” she said. “We are implementing a new model soon and hope to get to the students early so we can get them grounded and ready for success.”
