South Campus dance department will present its second annual Kaleidoscope Dance Concert Friday and Saturday, May 4-5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Carillon Theatre.
This year’s concert is a collaborative undertaking with dancers from the SE Campus, under the direction of Jeff Kaplan, joining dancers from the South Campus.
Gypsy Crane, director of the South Campus dance company, said the audience will be presented an evening of pure art making through dance.
The concert features nine dance works, exploring a wide range of human emotions. One of these dances, Civilizing the Beast, investigates the realities of racism and hatred in contemporary America.
“ Blending together dynamic movement with a powerful spoken score, this dance challenges both the dancers and the audience to take a glimpse into their own perceptions about race,” Crane said.
Other dances in the concert include a restaging of sections of Alvin Ailey’s work Revelations, Atto d’Amore, a classical ballet duet that investigates the intimacy that exists in the relationships between mothers and daughters.
Another featured piece is Digitation, a dance presented by the Velocity Dance Company exploring the many facets of human touch.
“ I believe this concert to be the best South Campus has presented in the three years I have been here,” Crane said.
Crane also praised the students’ work.
“ I am extremely proud of all the dancers who are sharing their talents, and I sincerely believe the audience will leave our concert thoroughly impressed,” she said.
Tickets are free for TCC students, faculty and staff. General admission is $5.
