Soccer heading to NW Campus

The world’s game is coming to NW Campus. All students seeking the opportunity to test their skills in the most popular sport in the world will have four days to do so, as a soccer tournament will be Oct. 2, 4, 9 and 11 on NW Campus.

“ This is the first year the event will take place. However, there are a lot of students on campus who love and play soccer regularly,” Paul Caffrey, NW HPE assistant professor, said. “Hopefully, many of them will sign up.”

Registration is currently underway for the event and there will be no fees charged for participation.

“ Anyone who is interested can come and sign up in the gym,” Caffrey said.

The event will be run like a tournament with four- or five-person teams, Caffrey said.

Because of the constant running soccer players go through, the sport is a major source of physical fitness.
“ Soccer is a game I was fortunate enough to play professionally,” he said. “And some of the benefits are improved cardiovascular endurance, balance, agility, coordination, speed and strength.”

The games will be held 2-3 p.m. each day, and prizes will be awarded.
