College dangers subject of SE talks

The SE Campus counseling center will host a series of Student Enrichment seminars Feb. 4 through March 10 to help students learn about struggles such as depression, drug and alcohol abuse and stress.

TCC counselors and other speakers will present seminars to students such as Body Image: Fantasy vs. Reality, Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships, and Anxiety, Depression and College Students. Other seminars include Stress Management and Relaxation Training and Binge Drinking.

“College students have to deal with many of the issues covered in the seminars,” TCC counselor Joyce Fisher said. “They may have friends or family struggling with eating disorders, depression or substance abuse.”

Fisher said the experts will advise students on these problems and offer practical tips and resources to help them address the issues.

The SE counseling center will also sponsor two panel seminars: Reducing Parental Burnout/Positive Discipline and Drug Abuse Issues in Tarrant County.

“In the fall, nearly 450 students attended the student seminars. We’re hoping for a good turnout again,” Fisher said. “We encourage students to come from other campuses, and members of the community are also welcome to attend.”

Admission is free, and there is plenty of seating, but TCC counselors prefer students arrive a few minutes before the presentations begin. Seminar times can be found on the TCC Web site in the Events and Activities Calendar as well in The Collegian’s Names and Events listing each week. Presentations will be in the North Ballroom.
