Employers now hiring during NW job fair

With summer right around the corner, many students are looking for a summer job, so the NW Campus will hold a job fair to aid in that search.

This semester, 75 employers have been invited to attend the job fair to recruit employees for their companies. LuAnn Krey, student development coordinator for career and employment services and one of the organizers for this event, hopes for at least 35 of those 75 employers to attend.

The fair runs 9 a.m.-1 p.m. April 21 in WSTU 1303.

“We expect 200 students to attend, as well as the community,” Krey said. “During the fall semester, we normally schedule a two-day recruiting event, where 10-12 employers come and recruit.”

Krey said students need to research the prospective company before the fair. They also should bring plenty of resumes to give to different employers.

“Make sure your professional resume is updated, error-free and ready to give to employers,” she said. “It is a good idea to create personal business cards to hand out too.”

The employers are possibly hiring for many positions, Krey said.

“This is a great opportunity for students to network with potential employers, whether it is an internship, or a part-time position, or if job seekers plan to use them as a networking tool,” she said.

According to the event organizers, students should ask several questions about the different positions the employers may have available.

“It is proper to ask when the company will be hiring, or making a decision,” Krey said. “Pick up the employers’ business cards to send them a thank you note.”

For more information regarding the job fair or which companies will be attending the fair, contact Krey at 817-515-7786. The center will also post a list on the bulletin board outside of the counseling department in the WCTS building.

“Remember to practice good eye contact,” Krey said. “And a firm handshake is a must.”

The career center on campus also sponsors weekly recruiting so companies can recruit on an as-needed basis.
