Now-April 11 South is offering free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance in SFOF, the Family Empowerment Center 3-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays. The VITA program generally offers free tax help to people who make $53,000 or less and need help preparing their tax returns. Feb. 11 Free help with enrolling in health insurance through the Affordable Care Act is available 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Living Room (SSTU 2105) on South Campus. Those attending should bring their Social Security number or immigration documents, W-2 form, an email address and a policy number for any existing health insurance. Open enrollment ends Feb. 15.

Feb. 11 How to Deal with “The Blues” and “The Butterflies” is an interactive workshop that will distinguish depression from “The Blues” and anxiety from “The Butterflies” while teaching everyday coping techniques that can be helpful for any student. SE counselor Carisa Givens will present 9:35-10:30 a.m. in the SE North Ballroom. This event is free and for students only.

Feb. 11 The NW Transfer Center will hold ABCs of Transferring to a University 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Michael Saenz Conference Room (WACB 1123) for students to learn how to begin the process of transferring from TCC to a university. Lunch will be provided.

Feb. 11 NW will hold an Innovation Forum open house for students 1-4 p.m. in WTLO 3101A for students to bring their ideas, concepts, improvements and “what if” ideas and learn how the innovation forum model helps ideas turn into actions.

Feb. 12 Career Services Open House and Information Session is taking place 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Career Center (NSTU 1625) on NE Campus. Students will learn about the new Career Coach Career Assessment and participate in an interactive demonstration. Refreshments will be served. Feb. 12 TR students interested in transferring to Texas Woman’s University can meet with a visiting admissions team to have their questions answered 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Riverfront Café. Students can have their applications and transcripts unofficially reviewed and get the $50 application fee waived. Academic advisors and counselors will be available. Feb. 16 Transfer Academy: Transfer Essentials Part 1 of 3 will take place noon-1:30 p.m. in the Larry Darlage Center Corner (NSTU 1615A) on NE Campus. Students interested in transferring to a university will learn the basics, including the admissions and application process, scholarships and financial aid, educational resume production and programs that assist with finding the right school. Students who complete all three sessions may qualify for a chance to win a $500 transfer scholarship. Feb. 18 ASK training will be 2:30-3:30 p.m. in NBSS 1103 on NE Campus. ASK is a gatekeeper-training program, which teaches people to recognize suicide risk factors and the proper channels and means to use in handling those situations. Feb. 18 The Big Picture on Body Image will be presented by Jordin Irvin from the Elisa Project for preventing eating disorders 12:50-2:10 p.m. in the SE Campus North Ballroom.
