The NE Campus men’s and women’s tennis teams participated in an unusual set of matches during the Nov. 7 weekend with the male and female students mixing in the tennis arena.

The matches, which took place at the University of Texas at Arlington tennis courts, featured combined teams of both men and women tennis players from NE. According to NE coach Tim Sebesta, the first set was by far the most energetic.

“We played a set of six, and we were so close the whole time,” he said. “There was finally a sudden death, and wouldn’t you know it? We lost by one point!”

The overall score was much more satisfying to bring home, Sebesta said. The team, which adopted the name “Toros” for the match, managed to beat both Baylor and West Texas A&M, playing three sets of six total.

The team is set to compete in sectionals at the John Newcombe Ranch in New Braunfels Feb. 11-14.
