For enthusiasts of the most popular sport on Earth, SE Campus’ soccer league will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 31.

The 6-on-6 league, which includes goalies, will be played on the SE football field, next to the golf hole. The HPE staff has painted soccer field lines and put up soccer goals to accommodate the annual league.

Intramural coordinator Shahzad Nazir said the halves will be 15 minutes with standard soccer rules. It will also be co-ed, ensuring that anyone who is interested can play.

“We will also have two officials that we hire,” he said.

Nazir said the league is prominent among students, and he expects a good turnout.

“I think we should have about eight teams,” he said. “It’s just as popular as football, and it’s definitely competitive.”

League winners will receive a trophy along with watches for each member of the winning team.

SE student Tobi Adalumo said playing soccer has benefits.

“I’ll just get some cardio that could help me in football,” he said.

Adalumo said he can’t wait for the season to start.

“I’m excited about it because I love soccer,” he said.

SE student Javier Tafoya said he was looking forward to the intramural league.

“I usually play in a rec league, but I didn’t sign up for it this season, so this will take its place,” he said. “It’s my first time playing over here, and it’ll be fun. It’s always fun playing with and meeting new people.”
