Various seminars give ideas to succeed

SE Campus will host a series of student success seminars during Fall Learning Skills Week Sept. 19-22.

Twenty seminars will be presented at various times in the North Ballroom. The seminars are free, and students can select from a range of topics.

Seminars will be held 8:30 a.m.-8:20 p.m. Sept. 19-20. Others will be held 8:30 a.m.-12:40 p.m. Sept. 21 and 8:30 a.m.-2:20 p.m. Sept. 22. Seminar schedules are available in the SE advising and counseling center in ESEC 2112.

NBC 5 Today news anchor Deborah Ferguson will speak 11:45 a.m.-12:40 p.m. Sept. 21.

SE Campus advising and counseling center as well as student activities are sponsoring the event.

Academic advisor Renetta Wright said an I Am Success student panel on Sept. 19 will share their interpretations of what success means. Career planning specialist Darrell Whitsell will present on Sept. 21.

“He does an excellent job preparing students,” Wright said.

Wright said whatever a student is here for — maybe they are taking one class and have a goal of passing — if they accomplish that goal, they have been successful.

“We want everyone to realize success comes in all forms,” she said.

Wright said the seminars are open to all students including new, returning and transfer students as well as students who may be on probation or suspension.

“Everyone can benefit from the seminars,” she said.
