Seminar to reveal contraception truths

By Leah Bosworth/reporter

Sometimes birth control doesn’t work the first time around, but there is always “Plan B.”

NE Campus will present a seminar on Plan B contraception hosted by the University of North Texas department of obstetrics and gynecology noon-1 p.m. Nov. 11 in NSTU Center Corner.

Kathleen Donaldson, director of allied health professionals in ob/gyn at the UNT Health Science Center, will address the facts and the myths behind emergency contraception pills.

Donaldson has been a certified nurse-midwife since completing her training at Dallas’ Parkland Memorial Hospital in 2004. She lectures to medical students and professionals about various women’s health topics.

She said at times traditional contraception will fail, and people should know there is a safe alternative.

Her presentation will explain how emergency contraception works, when it can be used and what side effects it has, she said.

Listeners will learn about available types of Plan B contraception and their costs.

Emergency contraception handouts will be available in English and Spanish, and Donaldson will answer listeners’ questions in the last 15 minutes of the presentation.

Admission is free for anyone, and a light lunch will be served. Attendees are asked to RSVP online at untobgyn@live.com.
