Panic at the Disco Pretty. Odd (4 stars)
Panic at the Disco dropped the childish exclamation point from its name as the band members dusted off their rock records.
The sophomore album, Pretty. Odd sounds like a final project for classic rock 101.
The mature sound is laced with a Dylanesque harmonica and Beatlesesque rhythms.
The album also has variety—something sorely missing from the group’s debut.
“Nine in the Afternoon” is the closest thing to Panic’s old sound, but even this track has refinement.
“That Green Gentleman (Things have Changed)” displays Panic’s potential.
Pretty. Odd is a great step in Panic’s evolution from high school emos playing music to serious rock band.
