Artist illustrates dyslexia on NW

By Kourtney Cribbs/reporter

Artist Eric McGehearty has said his struggle with dyslexia did not stop his creativity or his passion to help others with learning disabilities.

TCC students can see through the eyes of this artist during lectures he will give at 8:10 a.m., 9:10 a.m. and 11:10 a.m. Feb. 18 in the Walsh Library on the NW Campus. Roundtable discussions will be held at 1:30 p.m., 2:15 p.m. and 3 p.m.

McGehearty’s art installation, Locked Behind Words, is an exploration of signs, symbols, words and images.

A graduate of the University of North Texas, McGehearty has shown his work across the nation and was recognized by Americans for the Arts in 2007.

Inspiring others with his story of battling dyslexia, McGehearty travels the country to share his theories on literature, art and print. He is also a spokesperson for Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic.

Locked Behind Words can be viewed through April 18.

McGehearty also will have a one-person show later this year at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary in Dallas.
