CD Review-Gavin Rossdale-Wanderlust

By John Garces/entertainment editor

Once known for his ability to capture a hard-rock feel to the music, former Bush front man Gavin Rossdale slows things down considerably with his solo debut Wanderlust.

Full of melancholy introspection, the CD will probably be seen as a disappointment to those who expected more of the same. The album does have its high points, though few and far between.

Wanderlust delivers on the rock and roll tradition of producing at least one power ballad that turns into a smash hit. The lead single, “Love Remains The Same,” recently hit No. 1 on multiple charts.

Though he proves he has the vocal capabilities to pull off the slower songs, the problem with the record lies in the lack of variety in the songs.

In a few notable exceptions, the beat charges up slightly, and on those, the sound appears a bit on the futuristic side.

Songs like “Future World” and “Beauty in the Beast” provide the few bright spots on a record that is rather bland otherwise.

Wanderlust tries to expand the musical reach of Rossdale.

It might succeed in that goal, but the lack of variety might leave most people disappointed.
