TCC to celebrate 50 years with party

By Brandy Voirin/reporter

Turning 50 is a monumental occasion, which is why TCC’s 50th anniversary party will be the talk of the town.

The college is throwing the party from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Panther Island Pavilion in downtown Fort Worth.

TCC's anniversary celebration will take place Aug. 1 at Panther Island.

And all of Tarrant County is invited.

Vice chancellor of communication and external affairs Reginald Gates announced TCC’s vision for the 50th anniversary event in a “thank you letter” to the community.

“TCC’s accomplished so much in the last 50 years, and we could have never done it without the community,” Gates said.
“Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives. Thank you for taking the time and opening your hearts to us.”

With attendance expected at around 5,000, Gates said a black tie affair just wouldn’t do.

“The community means all people of all ages,” he said. “A casual interactive day of fun was the best solution.”

Tentative party plans include live music, scrumptious bites, inner tube floats and various youth activities. A planned duck decorating contest was replaced instead with a scavenger hunt.

“The logistics just didn’t work for the duck decorating,” he said. “So we went back to the think tank.”

Gates hinted to a few celebrity appearances in the works and a ton of giveaways.

“Nothing has been confirmed,” he said. “But students will be the first to know. Well, maybe we’ll keep a few secrets for the day of.”

Gates said he hopes the party not only celebrates TCC’s past but also points toward its future.

“This party marks 50 years of greatness, 50 years of achieving a dream, a goal, a vision,” he said. “Now, more than ever, we are focusing on the next 50 years of student success.”
