TR lab presents tech hacks

By— Ross Ocampo

While the i7-6800K Intel core processor may be the fastest on the market, the AMD FX-9590 core processor boasts equal capability and is cheaper.

That may seem like nerd talk to some, but it’s everyday vocabulary for Teresa Williams as she explained the pros and cons of both computer parts at her Tech Hacks 101 presentation Sept. 11 in the TR Campus Discovery Center.

Williams, the lab manager on TR Campus, addressed many features of computers and facts consumers should consider when buying a PC, whether for school or gaming.

“I thought it would be great to give my pointers of what I tell students who ask me [about buying computers] all the time,” she said.

Williams described the components of what makes up a computer and how they work. She also noted many kinds of operating systems and told students how to combat viruses through software.

For some, such as for NW student Tamara Nelson, it was new information.

“I learned about different PCs, what is out there, different virus protections and what to do when I have to back up and restore my files,” Nelson said. “It was good. I enjoyed it.”

After the seminar, Williams said it was her last day on campus.

“I’m moving on to something new,” she said. “It’s going to be sad moving, but it’s for a great opportunity.”

Williams served six years at TCC in corporate services and said she is going to miss everyone “getting along great, and helping each other” on the TR Campus.
