As a part of Women’s History Month, SE Campus will present the documentary Painted Nails 10-11:20 a.m. March 21 and 2:20-3:40 p.m. March 29 in the Judith J. Carrier Library.

The documentary follows the life of Van Hoang, a Vietnamese nail salon owner who faced negative effects from prolonged exposure to toxic nail care chemicals.

After experiencing multiple miscarriages and asthma, Hoang eventually decided to testify before Congress for safer cosmetic policies.

Painted Nails shows the cosmetic industry as one of the fastest growing in the country and health regulations and concerns as borderline nonexistent.

The lack of health concern and durable working conditions puts 80 percent of licensed U.S. manicurists that are Vietnamese immigrants at risk for health issues.

Following the two screenings of the documentary, a film discussion will be held 10-11:20 a.m. March 30 in the library and led by sociology assistant professor Sharon Wettengel.
