SE dance concert tells of loving life

The SE Rhapsody Movement Dance Company presents Artistry in Motion, a concert full of various types of dance from passionate dancers.

The students of the company have prepared for the concert since the beginning of the semester, learning different pieces ranging from jazz to contemporary.

To learn the pieces, the company practices every night, student Kayla Holland said.

“We’re all really passionate about what we’re doing. It’s not just like a regular class,” she said. “If people were to come and see us perform … they can tell we’re passionate about what we’re doing. And I think that comes through, and everyone enjoys it.”

Although the company performs concerts each year, every concert delivers different messages.

“Last semester, there was more of an emotional connection that we found in each piece, especially for the company members, just because we thought it out so much,” student Laura Rohoff said. “But this semester is a happier semester with our dances because it is all about loving life and loving dance and letting it show.”

Many of the student dancers have favorite pieces, including the contemporary piece choreographed by Max Jones. Nick Levington considers it one of his favorites because it feels good to dance to.

“It’s just a lot of hardcore dancing, and it’s going to be a lot of fun,” he said.

Rohoff said students will enjoy the concert because it is not something one sees every day.

“I think they would enjoy it because it is definitely something entertaining,” she said. “It’ll definitely show you it is not Dance Moms. It’s art. It is legitimately art on stage.”

The concert with guest company Dallas Black Theatre III is at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26.

Tickets are $5 for general admission and free with TCC IDs. All concert proceeds will go to Dancers Responding to AIDS.
