SE celebrates Black History Month with Read-In

By Elaine Bonilla/reporter

SE student activities and the SE library will host African-American Read-In to celebrate Black History Month 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Feb. 5 in the library.

The hourlong event will include an open mic where students, staff, faculty and visitors can volunteer to read an excerpt from a favorite book written by African-Americans, chosen from the African-American Read-In booklist.

“This gives students an opportunity to read an excerpt of their choice,” said student development associate Amy Staley. “This is part of the National African-American Read-In, which takes place anytime during the month of February.”

Once the read-in is over, a report card is submitted to a national database, which helps to determine how many readers participated.

The read-in is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, call SE student activities at 817-515-3595.
