Sixteen soloists, duets and groups competed in NW Campus’ So You Think You Can Dance? Feb. 2.
Duet partners Agustin Gutierrez and Vanessa Gutierrez wowed the judges by incorporating two lifts into their dance. Their performance won them first place and a $50 American Express gift card.
Andrew Gern, Lynn McCreight, Mandy Haynes and Chelsea O’Dell were awarded second place and a $25 iTunes gift card. Third place and a $15 iTunes gift card went to soloist Melissa Wallace for her spoof of Olympic athletes set to “Chariots of Fire.”
NW Campus humanities dean Mike Matthews, graphic designer Patricia Kimble and NW vice president of continuing education services Gary Goodwin judged the event.
“[The competition] was for the students to have fun and to get feedback on their choreography,” said NW Campus dance instructor Lacreacia Sanders.
