Dodgeball competition to raise funds for NW, elementary school gardens

Students and staff can compete in a dodgeball tournament Feb. 28 on NW Campus.

The tournament is a Cornerstone honors program community fundraiser. Admission is $5 per person, or $15 to buy an event T-shirt.  Proceeds from the tournament will go toward building two “dream gardens,” one for W.J. Turner Elementary School in Fort Worth and one for NW.

“It’s going to be a completely self-sustaining, solar-powered garden,” Cornerstone secretary Sarah Williams said. “We’ll grow Texas plant life, so it’ll be practical. We’ll build a greenhouse structure for it.”

Each team will have five  players each. Players either form their own teams or are assigned to one.

“The gym fills up pretty fast, but it’s great to have people cheering on the teams and cheering each other on,” said NW Cornerstone co-director Julie Lantrip. “It’s a friendly competition, but it does get noisy, especially when we have a close match, so we have had to order a sound system this year.”

Registration is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday in front of the NW bookstore and will close on Feb. 27.

For more information, visit the NW Cornerstone office in WTLO 4205.
