Buffalo state professor talks critical thinking

NW Campus hosted Gerald Nosich to discuss critical thinking during a workshop Sept. 20.

Nosich, a professor of philosophy at Buffalo State University, is no amateur in the subject of critical thinking. He has taught over 250 workshops and has studied critical thinking for years.

In every aspect of life, critical thinking can and should be applied, not only to sharpen the mind but also to continually improve, he said.

Many times when people have a problem they “worry instead of using critical thinking,” he said. They won’t break the issue down and consider all of the possible solutions. Instead of worrying, think more, he suggested.

Nosich explained the easiest way to go from worrying to thinking critically about an issue is simply to ask “why?” After asking why and finding the answer to why, people can create a solution to a problem.
