TR students who want to do their best pre-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger impression can participate in a strength and endurance contest at 11 a.m. March 23 in the campus weight room.
The contest will include four categories: squat, bench press, pushups and pullups, said TR intramural coordinator Nick Giovanetti.
“They will be judged on proper technique and form,” he said. “They will have scorecards since we will have a point system, so it won’t be just brute force.”
This competition can be surprising, Giovanetti said.
“It’s not usually the big muscle guy that wins,” he said. “There’s strategy involved. It’s the prepared people that win and those who watch what they eat before it starts.”
The competitors will be divided into categories by weight with the weigh-in preceding the competition.
The pushup section of the competition will be different than most people are used to, Giovanetti said.
“It’s not just going to be them getting down and pounding out a bunch of pushups,” he said. “It will be to a cadence with a tape that beeps when they need to go up and down.”
Giovanetti said he thinks the number of competitors will increase from the last competition.
“Going by last year, we had about 20,” he said. “So I expect a lot more this time.”
Giovanetti said he hopes to have a TCC-wide strength and endurance tournament.
“I don’t know if any other campuses are doing it,” he said, “but I hope we could have a schoolwide competition this semester.”
