South Campus students will shift back to the five-day week schedule in the fall of 2006.
David Clinkscale, associate professor of government and history on South Campus, said the department chairs were informed of the decision Feb. 9, and told South faculty members in a department meeting Monday, Feb. 13.
Clinkscale said South Campus is experiencing an increase in enrollment and has no space for the students. Implementing the five-day schedule will give students the opportunity to better build a schedule.
Anita Barrett, associate dean of instruction on South Campus, said the campus is moving to the five-day class schedule to maximize usage of class space by freeing up additional class-time slots.
Barrett also said the new fall ’06 schedule is designed to work with students’ schedules and thus increase enrollment.
Because many TCC students take classes on more than one campus, the five-day schedule will offer more consistency in students’ classroom schedules, Tahita Fulkerson, dean of instruction and accredited services downtown, said.
“ Analysis of the enrollment pattern suggests the five-day-a-week schedule will serve more students,” she said.
South Campus has been the only campus in the district utilizing the four-day schedule. This change brings the district back into alignment.
Details regarding the implementation are still in the planning process.
