Fun more than competition was the focus on NE Campus April 5.
Greg Dennis won the racquetball tournament with a score of 80 points against six opponents. Participants played “round robin” matches in which winners stayed and losers rotated. Each game was seven minutes, allowing each player equal play time.
The tennis tournament with six players produced no winner as each player cared more about playing than competing.
The first round was mixed doubles with men’s doubles and women’s singles following. The matches were designed for space and time. They also played on a no-add scoring system where the first to four points was the winner.
Andrew Bearen, a former NE student, showed up to give tips on the game and have fun.
“I really love tennis,” Bearen said. “It’s a game that everyone should be able to enjoy, and I was glad I could come out to support.”
The racquetball and tennis courts are both free to TCC students, faculty and staff, and anyone can check out equipment at the front desk of the NHPE building.
Kim Kerby-Dickman, NE physical fitness instructor, sponsored the event to promote the NE HPE department and its Employee Wellness program.
“We really love that people showed up,” Kerby-Dickman said. “It’s always fun to promote this great program and know that people had fun doing it. We hope that more will come to the upcoming tournaments and make use of our great HPE building.”
