Choreographer, dancer, dance instructor and actor Excel Garner will visit NE Campus Nov. 16-20 to teach hip-hop dance to all interested TCC students.

Sponsored by NE student activities and Dance Club, Garner will teach lessons, give lectures and choreograph and direct a performance during his week on campus.

He will begin 9-10 a.m. Nov. 16 by giving an introductory popping lesson in NHPE 2105. His lecture The Lifestyle of a Successful Dancer runs from 10:10 to 11:05 a.m. in NHPE 3105. He will present History of Hip-Hop Dancing noon-1:30 p.m. in Center Corner (NSTU 1625A).

Nov. 17 will begin with an introductory lesson in freestyle hip hop 11 a.m.-12:20 p.m. in the NE gym.

Garner will offer an introductory lesson in locking that afternoon at 4:30.

Nov. 18 is set aside for dance faculty when he will teach a choreography class 4:30-5:50 p.m.

Nov. 19 will include the lecture Marketing Yourself as a Dancer 9:30-10:20 a.m. in NHPE 3105.

Performances are scheduled at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20. Rehearsals are 7:30-10:30 p.m. Nov. 16-18 in NHPE gym. Dress rehearsals are scheduled for 6-10 p.m. Nov. 19 and 8 a.m.-noon Nov. 20 in Center Corner (NSTU 1625A).

Any TCC student can perform and attend the rehearsals as well as any of the scheduled lectures. Because it takes place in the NE Campus gym, any student also can attend the hip-hop lesson Nov. 17. Registration is required for all other lessons and events.

“We are just trying to reach out to all TCC campus students and faculty so they can learn hip-hop from Excel,” said dance professor Linda Quinn.
