Rarely do students see a demonstration or march organized on their campus. But even more rare is one made up primarily of pre-schoolers.
Last month, the children of the NE Campus child development program participated in the annual March-a-Thon to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
During the tour around campus, the children asked anyone who passed by if they had any money to donate to their cause. Pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and dollars were all well-received.
“Every year, service learning projects are done with young children,” Pati Cates, director of child development on NE Campus, said. “We are accredited with the National Association for the Education of the Young, and these service learning projects are a way to stay accredited.”
In all, more than $500 was raised from the money collected during the march as well as donations from contributions made by parents from fliers sent home with the children.
