Counting Crows Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings (3.5 stars)
countingcrowsCounting Crows will perhaps never go back to their sappy, romantic, depressing music, but their latest release,Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings, is the next best thing.

The album does have that classic Counting Crows-sound, and it is definitely better than their previous Hard Candy.

Adam Duritz’s vocals are impressive, particularly in “1492,” “Cowboys” and “When I Dream of Michelangelo.”

The songs about holding on to oneself among fame, pride and love are key elements of the album. But the music sneaks in to blend the two.

Unfortunately, nothing can compare to Counting Crows of the old days, but Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings is a slight glimpse of the greatness that was Counting Crows and a move toward something new.
