Seminar to study addiction

Students can become educated about various aspects of drug addiction tomorrow at Science of Addiction: From Neurobiology to Treatment.

Presented by Dr. Carlton Erickson, the workshop is 1-4 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in the Center Corner (NSTU 1615a) on NE Campus.

Erickson will provide the latest information about different types of drug dependency and drug abuse, treatment for each type and drug actions. He will address how new treatments help people who are chemically dependent.

Dolores Sutter, department chair of the mental health and legal assistant programs, said students should attend because Erickson will dispel many myths about addiction and presents from thorough research.

Erickson is director of the Addiction Science Research and Education Center in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Texas-Austin. He has written more than 260 scientific publications including Your Brain on Drugs, Drugs, The Brain and Behavior, Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research.

Sutter said Erickson’s material is the latest in research because it is from the last two years.

The cost is $10 for students and $20 for professionals. Reservations are required because of limited seating. Students can contact Maria Schoeneman at 817-515-6265 or maria.schoeneman@tccd.edu for required reservations.
