Now-Feb. 15 NW Campus is hosting its first visual art exhibition of the year titled Cera (Wax) showcasing the paintings of Roberto Munguia in the Lakeview Gallery. The one-person exhibit of encaustic paintings includes 25-30 of Munguia’s recent works. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
Now-Feb. 28 TR Campus is sponsoring a mixed-media art exhibition in the East Fork Gallery. Turn of the Sentry by El Paso artist Angel Cabrales is an interactive installation. The gallery is open during normal school hours.
Now-March 6 The work of former NE photography instructor René West are on display in SE Campus’ Art Corridor II. René West: rePresentation includes digital archival prints. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday-Saturday.

Feb. 13-14 Texas Tech endowed professor of architecture James Watkins will lead a hands-on workshop on alternate firing techniques 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the ceramics lab (NFAB 1309) on NE Campus. Some techniques covered will include raku, salt fuming, horsehair print and terrasigilata. Observation of the workshop is free, but participation for non-ceramics students is $150. Feb. 13-14 Texas Tech endowed professor of architecture James Watkins will exhibit some of his work, including ceramic paintings on sub-straights, in the J. Ardis Bell Library on NE Campus. Some work will be available for purchase with 15 percent of any sales going to the NE Association of Potters/Sculptors. An artist’s reception will be held 4-6 p.m. Feb. 13 in the library.

Feb. 20 The Bucket List Group will play some of the first-known written arrangements of Dixieland music at 10 a.m. in College Hall (NCAB 1111) on NE Campus. The group will have two trumpets, trombones and one baritone sax, clarinet, piano, bass, guitar and drums. The music will be original arrangements by clarinetist and arranger Matty Matlock, who arranged music for many jazz bands including the Bob Crosby band in the late 1930s. Feb. 19-22 Four new student-written plays will be presented by the SE drama program as part of Achieving the Dream Through the Arts Festival of New Plays. Performances will be in the C.A. Feb. 20-22 My Name is Rachel Corrie opens at 7:30 p.m. in the Joe B. Rushing Center for the Performing Arts on South Campus. The one-woman play is based on emails and journal entries of Rachel Corrie, an American student who was killed during a protest in the Gaza Strip. Tickets are free for TCC students, faculty and staff, $3 for non-TCC students and senior citizens and $6 for the general public. Feb. 24 A Mardi Gras parade will be on NE Campus starting at 10 a.m. promoting the upcoming play The Taming of the Shrew. The procession will start in the parking lot next to NFAB, go around the chessboard and end at the library. Campus clubs will join the drama program to throw beads and promotional items.
