Another opportunity to obtain information on immigration issues is coming this Saturday, Sept. 8. The Third Annual Immigration Conference will be 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on South Campus.

Proyecto Inmigrante, a non-profit organization, and TCC have organized the conference to update the community on immigration topics such as financial aid for students who wish to achieve higher education, study visas, admission to a college or university, religious visas, political asylum and temporal protection services.

The conference will present the latest updates in the Senate Bill 1528 and any changes in immigration law and deportation cases. Sessions will also inform about domestic violence and women’s rights as residents, family petitions, employment petitions and completion of the application to obtain U.S. citizenship.

Immigration experts including attorneys in the mentioned fields will answer questions and offer material. Representatives from the Dallas office of the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services and from Washington, D.C., Homeland Security will provide valid, updated information in all immigration areas.

Douglas Interiano, former TCC student and executive director of Proyecto Inmigrante ICS, said he looks forward to helping the community through this event.

“ I urge those of you who fit in any immigration criteria to take this opportunity to find out if you are eligible for any benefits because they will be available,” he said.

TCC students, staff and faculty including Juan García, South Campus vice president for student development, will serve as volunteers.
