Doctor discusses effects of alcohol on the brain

Dr. Carlton Erickson, associate dean for research and graduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin, will present The Reality of Alcohol and Other Drugs Recovery as Explained by Neuroscience 1-4 p.m. April 2 in the NSTU Center Corner.

The session will provide background and guidance for social workers, counselors, allied health professionals, caregivers and students.

Erickson received his bachelor’s degree from Ferris State College in 1961 and a doctorate in pharmacology from Purdue University in 1965. He has taught and studied the effects of alcohol on the brain for more than 40 years.

He has held tenured teaching and research positions at the University of Kansas and the University of Texas since 1965.
