French week is a time to celebrate food, French film and love, of lawn bowling that is, on NE and South campuses.
NE Campus will celebrate National French Week Nov. 3-7 through seminars and the arts.
The NE event kicks off 10:30 a.m.-noon Nov. 3 in the Larry Darlage Center Corner (NSTU 1615A).
French professor Mary Williams and French instructor Lisa Arth will serve as world language department consulate officials and speak on Le Monde Francophone as well as French study abroad scholarships during the opening ceremonies.
NE president Allen Goben will give the opening remarks and introduce guest speakers: Isabelle Grenier from Bell Helicopter, John Lastinger from Essilor Vision and Pascaline Thomas from Alliance Françoise Dallas Chapter.
Patricia Zilliox, French Chamber of Commerce president, will discuss Francophone Companies and Markets in the USA.
The French Club will be present to welcome students and guests as well as serve breakfast.
The next installment will occur 7:30-9:30 p.m. Nov. 4 with the French film Jour de Fête in NSTU 1506. Refreshments will be provided.
The fun continues Nov. 5 with a pétanque, or boules, tournament between the French Club, the German Club, ESL and the Organization of Latin American Students. Boules is a form of lawn bowling with the use of a metal ball. The event is sponsored by Nestlé Nesquik, and French crepes will be provided. The tournament will take place noon-2 p.m. on the field outside the student center.
The NE drama program will perform Picasso at the Lapin Agile 7-9:30 p.m. Nov. 6 in the NFAB theater.
The play is written by Steve Martin and directed by NE drama associate professor Stephen Thomas. Refreshments will be provided.
The world languages department will sponsor a visit to the Kimbell Art Museum at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 7 for its exhibit Faces of Impressionism from Musée d’Orsay.
Throughout the week, exhibits in the NE library will include popular French writers, literature, film and journals and pictures from France will be on display in the Student Center.
Sponsors include the International Language and Culture Institute, NE humanities division and student activities.
South Campus will celebrate National French Week Nov. 5-11 with films and exhibits.
South Campus French Club and South Film Club will show Marie Antoinette 12:30-2:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 and Amelie 12:30-2:30 p.m. on Nov. 11 in the Recital Building.
The South Campus Library will display French exhibits celebrating the French language during library hours Nov. 5-11 in the SLIB lower level.
