Look for happiness, prepare many options, says life coach

Stories shape the way humans live.

That was the message given as part of Women’s History Month by the South kinesiology department and the Health and Wellness Council, which hosted Kay Cross, a licensed personal trainer and life coach, March 5.

“You can’t live your values until your needs are met,” she said.

When looking for a job, people should find one that makes them think, “I can’t believe I’m getting paid for this!” Cross said.

She said $75,000 is usually the threshold when it comes to money having an effect on someone’s happiness. Anything over that tends to not make much of a difference.

“When making decisions, instead of asking yourself, ‘why?’ ask yourself, ‘why not?’” she said.

Cross said options are also beneficial.

“With one option, you’re stuck,” she said. “With two, you have a dilemma. With three, you have choices.”

That lets someone feel comfortable with whatever decision they end up making, Cross said.

“At the end, you want to ask yourself, ‘Did you live? Did you love? Did you matter?’” she said.
