NE and TR campuses are offering scholarships for students who complete the transfer academy.
However, all five campus transfer centers have come together to design programming for students.
Sandra Bermejo, South transfer center coordinator, said NE and NW have the most experience offering transfer academies.
“We’ve been getting together for about a year and a half,” she said. “We shared with each other our plans for the year. It [transfer academy] is a common thread that all five campuses are doing.”
The transfer academy concept is now universal across the campuses, but each one offers its own set of workshops and services for students.
“There’s a lot of uniformity but also uniqueness,” SE transfer center coordinator Terrell Shaw said.
“One of our initiatives is creating a stronger bridge with UT Arlington because we have a connection with them that not all of the campuses do.”
Transfer centers offer their own set of workshops and services to students on each campus.
“We are here to provide help for our students to transfer if that is what they wish to do,” Bermejo said.
The transfer academy on each campus offers workshops to help students prepare to transfer, a chance for students to meet with university representatives and opportunities to visit different universities.
“There are three different parts. So if [TR] students complete all of them, they will be put in a drawing to win a $500 scholarship,” TR transfer center coordinator Laura Escamilla said.
NE Campus offers the same program of its students being eligible for a drawing to win a $500 transfer scholarship after attending its three sessions.
Many of the university tours sponsored by TR Campus will leave from that campus.
Space is limited, and priority is given to students who have already completed the first two transfer academy events.
However, all TCC students are welcome to attend TR’s on-the-go events.
“I always try to connect to things they [universities] already have going on,” Escamilla said.
Buses will leave from TR to attend Blue and Gold day at Texas Wesleyan University, Transfer Open House at the University of North Texas and Maverick Experience day at the University of Texas at Arlington.
The five transfer centers collaborated with Texas A&M to create TCC Day in Aggieland, a university visit leaving from TR.
Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 to be eligible for this event. Other visits to UNT, UTA and Wesleyan are open to all students.
