Women’s History Month Calendar

Now-March 31 South Campus will hold the Women’s History Month exhibit Young Women Makers, Shakers and Movers in the lobby of the Jenkins Garrett Library. It is available during normal business hours.

March 2 NE Campus’ history and philosophy department presents Not For Ourselves Alone 12:30-1:50 p.m. in the Darlage Center Corner (NSTU 1615A). In honor of Women’s History Month, the documentary pays homage to the struggles of the women’s suffrage movement. For additional information, call 817-515-6304.

March 3 Pathways to Excellence will be 11:30 a.m.-12:50 p.m. in the Ballroom on SE Campus. The presenters will be senior vice president of operations for the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau Mary German, Lane Boots president Justine Lord and Johnson Insurance and Financial investment professional Sheila Johnson. March 8 South Campus will hold a Women’s History Month luncheon in celebration of International Women’s Day 12:30-1:45 p.m. in the Fusion Auditorium (SETC 1100). The luncheon will feature history assistant professor Carolyn Carney, who will discuss contemporary women. March 8 NE Campus will hold Informed Voting: Deciding Whom to Vote For 12:30-1:50 p.m. in the Darlage Center Corner (NSTU 1615A). League of Women Voters representative Jeane Grisham will discuss informed voting: how to find out about a candidate’s voting record as well as how to follow the money that supports elected officials. March 9 NE Campus kinesiology department and student activities will host Women’s Self Defense 10 a.m.-noon. in the Darlage Center Corner (NSTU 1615A). The two-hour self-defense class will lay the foundation for effective self-defense and teach awareness, assertiveness, verbal confrontation skills, safety strategies and physical techniques that enable someone to prevent, escape and resist violent assaults. March 22 NW student activities will sponsor Living Historian: A Perspective on Women in American History 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in WACB 1123. March 22 The Life and Impact of Julia Scott Reed will be 11:30 a.m.-12:50 p.m. in the SE Campus library (ESED 1200). UTA associate professor and history chair W. March 23 South Campus will hold a panel discussion on dating and domestic violence 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Fusion Auditorium (SETC 1100). March 30 South Campus will have a mobile mammogram unit 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in the north parking lot. The unit, provided by the Moncrief Cancer Institute, will provide assistance to women 35 and over by offering free mammograms. For more information, call 817-515-4595.

March 30 NE Campus will hold Ella Baker: Community Organizer of the Civil Rights Movement 12:30-1:50 p.m. in the Darlage Center Corner (NSTU 1615A).
