Both students and faculty on SE learned how meaning, movement and motivation will help aid success.

Meaning, movement and motivation are three things it takes to succeed, the district’s director of staff development told SE faculty and students Oct. 18.

Alma Martinez-Egger spoke about the importance of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and taking care of oneself.

“Whatever you’re working on now and whatever you’re processing right now, you’re helping your future,” she said.

Martinez-Egger presented the audience with exercises of communication to help acknowledge meaning and movement.

“If you’re doing all three of these things … you will be in the end zone, that will be your No. 1 place,” she said.

Martinez-Egger shared a personal experience where she used her method of success to make a decision on whether to buy a new car. She followed Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and used the three M’s: meaning, movement and motivation.

She overcame her fear of failure and bought the new car.

Martinez-Egger told faculty and students to think about what motivates them to achieve success.

“My family,” diversity and inclusions director Andrew Duffield responded. “All of the needs that they have, they rely on me as far as the sole provider for those needs. Everything that I do in life is for my family.”

Martinez-Egger closed out by showing the “death crawl” scene from the movie Facing the Giants to provide an example of everything she spoke about in her speech.

Martinez-Egger is hoping to continue speaking for as long as there are requests.

“I hope I gave the audience energy to do something to give them a better quality of life,” she said. “I want to help people through their struggles more easily.”

The speech was part of the TCC Innovation Forum.

Martinez-Egger will present the same speech 10 a.m.-noon Oct. 27 in College Hall (NCAB 1111) on NE Campus.
