South dance will feature drag queens

A Gatsby Masquerade Ball sponsored by South Campus’ Spectrum club is scheduled Nov. 18.

Club president Tyler Jackson says this is the first time Spectrum has ever thrown a ball.

“It is basically a night of entertainment and knowledge of the LGBT ballroom culture,” he said. “We will be having drag queen performances, a hot banquet meal, dancing, music.”

Jackson says the entire TCC community is invited, and it is a great way to spread awareness of Spectrum on South Campus.

“The ball is going to be very interactive,” he said. “It’s for everyone, not just for Spectrum. It’s for everyone and open to all the organizations and all the campuses.”

Jackson says this event is more than just a party. It’s also a way to inform people on the LGBTQ community.

“We are giving them information and a performance,” he says. “It is something that they will never forget.”

The ball will run 6-11 p.m. in the SSTU Dining Hall. Attire is semi-formal. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10 for a single person and $15 for double. For more information, email spectrumsouthtcc@gmail.com.
