Women’s History Month

Now-March 31 A Women’s History Month exhibit, Women and Intercultural Communication, is on display in the Jenkins Garrett Library on South Campus. Library hours are 7:45 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 7:45 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and closed Sunday.

Now-March 31 Information about important women in history will be put on display in the SE Campus Bistro during the 48 Notable Women exhibit. The display, featuring Susan B. Anthony, Georgia O’Keeffe and 46 other women, is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. every day of the week and is free and open to the public.

March 9 The 2003 film Mona Lisa Smile will be shown 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Bistro on SE Campus. The movie stars Julia Roberts as a liberal arts professor in 1953 teaching three students, played by Kirsten Dunst, Julia Stiles and Maggie Gyllenhaal, to question their traditional roles in society. Mona Lisa Smile marks the first time a female (Roberts) was paid $20 million for an acting role in a film. For more information, call 817-515-3103.

March 9 The South dance department will present Voices from the Vault, a recital featuring resident dance companies Velocity I and Velocity II. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the SSTU Student Center.

March 10 A faculty voice recital will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall on South Campus. Adjunct voice instructor Jiyoun Kim will perform.

March 10 Television journalist Rebecca Rodriguez will share her experiences with SE Campus students in So You Want to Be a Reporter? Making It as a Journalist in the 21st Century 1-2:30 p.m. in the Campus Conference Center (ESEC 2124). Rodriguez has worked as a correspondent for CNN and Fox News and has served on multiple committees with the City of Arlington and the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. March 10 The animated film Sita Sings the Blues will be shown 2-4 p.m. in the SSTU Fort Worth Room on South Campus. The film takes the events of the traditional Hindu tale Rama’s Journey, chronicles them through the eyes of the character Sita and depicts her desire for equal treatment from the men in her life.

March 21-31 Students can view the Tools of Home exhibit in the SE Campus library. The exhibit will include antique sewing and cooking utensils and a collection of antique cookbooks. The exhibit will explain how the tools were used and what modern conveniences have replaced them. For more information, call 817-515-3103.

March 23 Capt. Julia Dunaway, chief social worker for the Federal Women’s Prison of Fort Worth, will be the guest speaker at the Young Women’s Leadership Track: Taking the Right Road event 6-7 p.m. in the SSTU Forum Room on South Campus.

March 24 The Women’s Health Seminar will be noon-2 p.m. in the SSTU Forum Room on South Campus. The guest speaker will be Julia M. Woodard, who works as a senior occupational therapist.

March 28 Ruthann Geer, SE government instructor, and Constance Siegel, SE student, will present Women Making a Difference 10:45 a.m. in the Campus Conference Center (ESEC 2124). The interactive discussion will focus on making changes that make a difference in the lives of women and their families.

March 31 History/government instructor Carlos Rovelo will present Make Up for Success at 11 a.m. in the SSTU Living Room on South Campus.

March 31 International photographer Loli Kantor will present There Was a Forest — Jewish Life in Eastern Europe Today 1-2:30 p.m. in the Campus Conference Center. (ESEC 2124) on SE Campus. For more information, call 817-515-3103.

April 2 The 10th Annual Women’s Symposium: Sisters Bridging Cultures: One Voice, One Heart, Many Hands provides an educational and interdisciplinary event featuring networking opportunities, speakers and more than 35 vendor displays. The event will take place 8:15 a.m.-12:25 p.m. in the SSTU Cafeteria and Living Room on South Campus.
