The NE Playhouse will reach out to the local community this spring as it does every year.

One outreach program brings in about 250 dual-credit high school students from the Mid-Cities area to see a NE-produced Shakespeare play. The students will see the Playhouse’s production of Richard III on Feb. 29.

Theater director Stephen Thomas said he was proud not only of the chance to educate high school students about Shakespeare, but also that the performance combines the talents of several different departments on NE Campus.

“We combine the English, art, drama, history and music departments to teach them about Shakespeare,” Thomas said.

“They come and watch the play. Then we feed them, and each department gives a short presentation on how they worked on the play.

“The goal is to get high school students on our campus and show them how we integrate different disciplines and how Shakespeare can be fun.”
