Students can get information on health and volunteer opportunities at the NW Community Volunteer/Health Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 7 in WSTU 1303/05, in front of the cafeteria and in the WFAB driveway.
The health fair will include more than 25 vendors with information on every area of health from free blood pressure screenings to children’s health insurance program, from breast cancer to massage therapy.
Carter BloodCare and Harris Methodist will have mobile units parked on the driveway that leads from the parking lot to the WFAB building.
Harris will perform mammograms 9 a.m.-3 p.m., but students must call 817-515-7790 to schedule an appointment.
Students can stop by the Carter unit 9 a.m.-5 p.m. to donate blood.
The Community Volunteer Fair outside the cafeteria connects students and local organizations, including the Boys and Girls Clubs and SafeHaven.
Evette Brazzile, health and disabilities services director and fair coordinator, said volunteering helps the agencies do their work and helps students.
“Students who don’t have a lot of work experience because they are in school can put volunteering on a résumé,” she said.
The volunteer organizations will show students how they can help, how to apply to volunteer and how the process of starting out works.
