Student orchestra will present jazz concert on NE Campus

By Aubrie Graham/reporter

Students can come jazz it up at the NE Jazz Lab concert Nov. 21.

The Jazz Lab, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the NE Theatre, is made up of a 20-piece orchestra of NE students.

“Eight pieces will be played. Two of those will be NE student soloists,” said director Philippe Baugh.

NE student Miles Belvin will perform a piece called “Places,” Belvin said.

“This is my favorite piece because it is a challenge,” he said.

Belvin has been a trumpet player for nine years and chose the trumpet because he believes it “matches my personality, very extroverted.”

Belvin hopes to pursue a career in music. He went on tour across the country with Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps, a world-class competitive junior drum and bugle corps.

Music has always been in Belvin’s family. His father was a professional trumpet player, and Belvin hopes to follow in his footsteps.

The concert is free of charge, and students and family are welcome.
