This year the NW Campus will hold its first Student Success Celebration.
The theme of the event will be a family-style picnic complete with all the classics, such as three-legged race, potato sack race, pie-tasting contest, hoola-hoop contest and a dunking machine.
Amy Ross, associate professor of dance and a member of the planning committee, said rain or shine the celebration will be a success.
But if it rains, it will be a mad dash to find shelter for the pies, Ross said.
“This is the first year we are doing this, but we hope to make it an annual event,” she said.
The main event will be the pie-tasting contest. Every department is submitting one pie for the contest, and the winner receives a trophy.
That trophy will be passed to the winning department next year.
“It should be a lot of fun, it will be out by the lake, so everyone should bring a blanket or something, and, if they want, pack a picnic,” she said.
Lunches consisting of hot dogs, chips and a drink will be available for $3.
Other festivities will include a live DJ and a caricature artist. The celebration will be outside on the grounds east of the Student Center 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
