Two jazz concerts featuring music from American composers and performed by TCC student musicians will be at 7:30 p.m. March 25 and 28.
NE music associate professor Philippe Baugh said the music was chosen specifically to make an impact on the audience.
“All of the arrangements are based on jazz standards recorded by artists such as Charles Mingus, John Coltrane and Miles Davis,” he said. “I choose and write the music for these concerts in order for the audiences to get turned on to jazz repertoire from the last 50 or so years.”
Baugh said the concerts are an effort to inspire the audience to venture out of their music comfort zone.
“This is beneficial to students and all of my audiences because it is an opportunity to hear high-quality art music,” he said. “Many people know only of popular, contemporary music that they currently listen to and have little idea of music outside of popular music, such as jazz and classical styles.”
Both performances will be in the NE Theater (NFAB 1201) and are open to the public.
