Since most students cannot travel to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, Mardi Gras is coming to them.
SE Campus student activities will host Beads in the Bistro, a celebration of New Orleans Mardi Gras festival Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m.
Nita Haliburton, student activities coordinator, said the celebration is a dedicated effort to bring a small slice of New Orleans to the campus.
“ We have a lot of students who celebrate Mardi Gras, and we want to bring it to them,” she said. “We’ll observe the celebration within the boundaries of the college.”
The Universal Jazz Quartet, a local jazz ensemble, is scheduled to perform Dixieland jazz. The group’s sound, member Haily Kitts said, resembles the style of jazz legend Louis Armstrong.
Haliburton said student activities would give away coins and beads although students will not have to flash to obtain them.
Refreshments, including the traditional King Cake, will also be provided.
