RateMyProfessors.com is a resource TCC students use to find instructors that fit their learning style.
“When I sign up for a class that I’m paying for, I want to make sure that I have a professor who cares about their students and who is passionate about what they’re teaching,” NW student Michelle Aslan said.
RateMyProfessors.com contains 15 million ratings, 1.4 million professors and over 7,000 schools listed on its site.
“I use it to see if the professor suits the way I am before I choose them as my instructor,” NE student Christian Velazquez said.
Students use the site to evaluate the professors’ curriculum and expectations.
“I like to see how much work the professors give their students, the average grade students make in that class and find how hard the tests are in the class,” NE student Marley Minacapelli said.
To rate a professor, a student must type in course codes, rate helpfulness, clarity, easiness and hotness levels and select three tags that describe the professor.
A student may rate a class as good and the professor helpful, but another student may disagree.
“My first government class had very good reviews, and people wrote that he was interesting, but for me the class was boring, and I didn’t do well in the class,” NE student Bailey Carr said.
But the number of reviews might help the decision-making process.
“If other students are recommending professors to me, then I know that I can trust their opinion to take the same instructor because they’ve all had a good experience with them,” Aslan said.
