Job hunting lessons offered

By Dea Ozegovic/reporter

As a result of the recession affecting the economy and jobs, South Campus career services will present Job Hunting During a Recession Oct. 8.

Monica Bettle, career and employment center coordinator on South Campus, will tell students how to utilize all available resources to help them find a job.

Many students, Bettle said, are concerned with their employment situation or job security.

With the recession, the job pool has shrunk for many people, especially college students. For those students who are struggling to find a job that blends with their schedule or those who are looking for a career, Bettle said this session will help them find the job they have been seeking.

This seminar will guide them through the process of making their profile as a job seeker appealing to employers by displaying their best work and accomplishments.

Bettle will talk about community and Internet resources that she said are great ways to seek employment. Through this seminar, Bettle said students will learn how to use job search Web sites such as Monster and HotJobs as well as get tips to make these Web sites better tools.

The presentation will focus on helping seekers narrow down the process to keep the search efforts efficient, effective and stress-free.

“Knowing how to do these things will help people stay positive and avoid frustrations of a job search,” she said.

The presentation will be held 1-2 p.m. in the SSTU Texas Room.

The free event is open to anyone.
