In an attempt to encourage support for the district’s LGBT community, TCC will hold a series of Safe Space training sessions on each campus.
Andrew Rodriguez, NE Campus LGBTQ Spectrum Club adviser, along with Demesia Razo and Kateeka Harris, student support coordinators for NW and TR campuses, will present the training sessions.
Topics will include lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered terminology and ways to provide support for those in that community.
“Safe Space trainings are for anyone who is already aware of the LGBT community and who support them,” Rodriguez said. “[They’re] really a way of taking the extra step to say, ‘Hey, I’m here, I support you guys, and I want to help you.’”
In an attempt to gauge the climate of the campus, those wishing to attend are asked to do so on their own home campus, but students or staff with no home campus or those unable to attend the training on their own campus can attend any of the upcoming training sessions on any TCC campus.
To register, students should go to the Volunteer Hub. Faculty and staff can register through the Learn Center. Locations will be emailed to attendees after they register.
